TEARS

by Master Alex
In Memory of slave john

Unbidden now, yet still they come,
For him for whom his life is done.
One stolen from me while in his prime,
Still in his youth, before his time.

With him I felt so very young,
And now it's like my life is done.
Left then with such finality,
Dwell I now on my mortality.

Surrounded still by friends and loves,
My joy is fled like startled doves.
To wish him back I know is folly,
Yet wish I so in melancholy.

From salty wells so oft they flow,
Fall hot upon my cheeks below,
These streams of grief, for him, for me,
What was, and never more shall be.

Unbidden now, yet still they come,
For him for whom our life is done.
And so two lives, our hopes, our fears,
Still gather in those bitter tears.
